13-unit development, Lexington, MA Design Challenge: Working closely with a landscape architect, take a team approach to master plan a residential community. Assist project through the special permit approval process with the local planning board and conservation commission. Solution: The design solution has achieved harmony with all the challenges the site could provide: severe topography, extensive wetlands, and a transitional lot between a single-family neighborhood to the north and commercial/ institutional uses to the south. The development of two villages, one upper and one lower, has allowed us to vary the scale and density of the project while providing a solution that is in tune with this mixed streetscape. The placement of the units will leave about two-thirds of the existing vegetation of mature woodland and will afford great views and private open space.
